Scouts BSA Camping
Camping is an integral part of the Scouting program. In the outdoors, kids have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliant. They can explore, canoe, hike trails and complete challenges they first thought were beyond their ability. Attributes of good character become part of a young person as they learn to cooperate to meet challenges they may face in the great outdoors.
The Atlanta Area Council offers Scouts BSA summer resident camp at both Camp Bert Adams Scout Camp in Covington, Georgia and Camp Woodruff Scout Camp in Blairsville, Georgia. Weekend camping is also available at both properties except during the summer. Weekend camping is also available at Allatoona Aquatics Base year-round!
Bert Adams Scout Camp was originally founded in 1928 in Vinings, Georgia. The new Bert Adams Scout Camp, located outside Covington, GA, was opened in 1960 and has been a favorite location for camping, activities, and training. Through the generosity of our Scouting supporters, Bert Adams provides state-of-the-art facilities that help create convenient and comfortable camping right in Atlanta's backyard!
Bert Adams Scout Camp is a modern camping experience like nothing you've ever seen. With best-in-class facilities like an air-conditioned dining hall, swimming pool, internet connectivity, and permanent platform tents (with electricity!), Bert Adams is the perfect place for Cub Scout families to get their first taste of the true Scouting experience and for Scouts BSA to tackle a unique and exciting outdoor program.
You'll never forget your summer at Woodruff. With programs designed for maximum fun and achievement, Woodruff offers once-in-a-lifetime adventures for Scouts looking for a pure Scouting experience.
Your typical Woodruff morning is spent knocking out Merit Badge requirements at our class-leading waterfront, nature/STEM center, field sports, handicraft or shooting sports ranges. In the afternoon, Scouts and their Troops have the opportunity to take on adventure challenges like climbing & rappelling, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, mountain boarding, Ga-Ga ball, interpretive programs, and a variety of aquatic activities. Campfires, movie nights, Vespers, and spoof badge sessions fill the twilight hours before taps close out another great day of camp.
Located in the North Georgia Mountains, Woodruff's natural environment gives you nearly unlimited opportunities for adventure. And our renowned first-year camper program and quality merit-badge instruction mean that every Scout will have the time of their life.
