Gilwell Society
Vision:
We envision a Gilwell Society where every trained leader finds friendship, purpose, and
opportunities to lead with confidence. Through engaging activities, meaningful service,
and leadership development, we will grow a supportive network of volunteers who
enhance Scouting at every level. By empowering one another and making volunteering
fun, we ensure that every Scout benefits from great mentors and life-changing
experiences.
Mission:
The Gilwell Society of the Atlanta Area Council brings together trained Scouting
volunteers to connect, grow, and lead with purpose. We foster a welcoming space
where Wood Badge and NYLT alumni and other trained leaders live the values of Scouting
through service, mentorship, and camaraderie. By supporting one another and staying
engaged, we strengthen the Scouting movement and ensure that every volunteer feels
empowered to make a lasting impact.
Guiding Principles:
Youth focused – The Gilwell Society’s (GS) efforts, response, and decisions will always be weighed against what is best for the youth we serve.
Lead with strength – The GS Committee will reach out to the most knowledgeable people and volunteers to create the best possible resource base for the promotion of the Wood Badge and NYLT programs.
Best practices – The GS is always open to effective methods and practices from other councils and similar organizations.
Membership
Membership is open to all adult Scouters who have completed the Wood Badge training course, those who staffed Wood Badge, and/or staffed NYLT anywhere in the world and are registered members of Scouting America. Membership is open to any individual upon completion of the formal class room training.
