Ten Eagle Scouts and Counting!

Congratulations to Roy from Troop 1190 in Southwest Atlanta on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout! This achievement makes Roy the tenth Scout to reach Eagle as a member of a Program Specialist-led unit.

For his Eagle project, Roy built two library stands at New Life Church to provide books for youth as they prepare for school and college – a project inspired by his love of reading and belief in the value of education. Roy recently graduated from Marietta High School and will attend Kennesaw State University in the fall.

Roy now serves as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 1190, where he's helping his younger brothers earn the rank of Eagle and mentoring the other Scouts in the troop.

What Is a Program Specialist-Led Unit?

A Program Specialist is a unique position within the Atlanta Area Council consisting of full-time and part-time staff members who lead and grow units in parts of the city – like South Cobb and Southwest Atlanta – where Scouting has not traditionally been available. The Scouting program itself doesn't change. Scouts in these units complete the same rank advancement and enjoy the same outdoor experiences as any other troop or pack. What's different is how the unit is supported. These units are largely funded through Scoutreach, which allows the council to reach hundreds of youth across Atlanta who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience Scouting. Thank you to our Scoutreach supporters who enable awesome Scouts like Roy to reach their full potential.

Because of that, Program Specialists hold one of the most important roles in the Atlanta Area Council. Roy is now the tenth Eagle Scout to come out of a Program Specialist-led unit, adding to an ever-growing list of impressive Eagles.
