Troop 77 Delivers 1,296 Sandwiches for Individuals Facing Food Insecurity
In a heartwarming display of Scouting spirit and generosity, Troop 77 of Decatur, GA worked together on Tuesday, March 26, to craft a staggering 1,296 sandwiches for the Sandwich Project. Laura Baldwin, one of the Sandwich Project’s network volunteers who coordinated the March 26 event, said,
“This evening’s effort is especially impactful going into next week when schools will be closed for spring break. Students facing food insecurity may only receive meals provided by their school. The sandwiches that we make tonight will provide nutrition and sustenance to many individuals who may not otherwise have a source of food throughout the week.”
Combining smoked turkey and cheese on bread, Baldwin told the Scouts that this simple sandwich would provide essential protein and nutrients that ensured that it was not only delicious but also nutritious. She said their contribution would be appreciated by all who received it.
The initiative began with Troop 77's Scouts eagerly taking up the mantle of service, recognizing the pressing need within their community. Working with efficiency and enthusiasm, the Scouts methodically assembled each sandwich.
