Marietta Siblings Earn Eagle Scout on the Same Night!
In November 2023, Avi Fox of Troop 444 and Talia Fox of Troop 2019 in Marietta earned their Eagle Scout awards making them the first brother and sister duo in the Atlanta Area Council to be awarded the honor on the same night. For Avi, 16, and Talia, 13, the race to Eagle was fueled by sibling rivalry and healthy competition that ultimately led to a stronger bond between one another.

Their journey started when Talia and a group of her friends from school started a Webelos den. After hearing about all the fun his sister was having, Avi joined his school’s troop and was immediately engaged by the variety of merit badges. The competitive siblings were a motivation to each other, and even in difficult times, they worked to make the journey toward Eagle as efficient as possible. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fox family used their time to complete merit badges like Emergency Preparation and Space Exploration at home. Their persistence and accountability toward one another helped both achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in just over a three-year period.
To their parents, seeing how Avi and Talia flourished as individuals during their respective Scouting journeys made everything worth it. They witnessed Talia evolve from a shy young girl into a confident leader and Avi grow as an insightful and charitable young adult. Each have adopted the principles of the Scout Law into their daily lives while on the journey to Eagle. For Avi, he has embraced being more cheerful. He uses his positive attitude to get younger Scouts more involved and resolve conflicts. Talia has worked to be more brave by taking on roles like Senior Patrol Leader in her troop and becoming a role model for younger girls.
Their mother, Allison, had this to say about her childrens' Scouting experiences:
From merit badges like cooking and personal management, it adds to that idea that scouting helps build people into good humans; watching my kids evolve into these amazing human beings through Scouting has been an incredible gift.
For Avi and Talia, Scouting has given them life skills and leadership opportunities, and the shared experience has brought the Fox family closer together. Whether it was helping toss bear bags over trees on family camping trips, videoing each other perform emergency preparedness situations in the living room during quarantine, or planting flags on their great-great-grandfather’s grave at the Marietta Cemetery’s Memorial Day Flag Ceremony, Scouting has allowed Avi, Talia, and their family to become an even stronger unit.
Following the outstanding achievements that led them to earn their Eagle Scout rank, Avi and Talia each plan on remaining active in their respective troops. Despite a busy schedule, Avi plans on attending campouts and summer camps to motivate other scouts in his troop to Eagle. Talia intends to continue her role as a leader in her troop, coaching and encouraging the younger girls as they prepare for a high adventure trip in 2024. Congratulations to both Avi and Talia on their special achievement!
